अमेरिकी नागरिकों की जेब को डेटा सेंटर्स के बिजली बिल के भार से बचाने के लिए अमेरिकी सीनेटर्स ने ऐतिहासिक विधेयक पेश किया है। इसे ‘गारंटींग रेट इंसुलेशन’ या ‘GRID’ एक्ट कहा जा रहा है। इसका मकसद दो चीजों की गारंटी देना है। पहला, ये कि डेटा सेंटर्स की वजह से उपभोक्ताओं के बिल में कोई बढ़ोत्तरी नहीं होगी। इसके अलावा बिजली ग्रिड्स पर पहला हक आम लोगों का होगा न कि टेक दिग्गजों का। इस बिल की वजह से डेटा सेटंर्स को ऑफ ग्रिड साधनों से बिजली जुटानी पड़ेगी जैसे कि सौर्य या पवर उर्जा से।
न्यूयॉर्क और पेंसिल्वेनिया की पहल
डेटा सेंटर्स अमेरिका के राज्यों में भी विरोध देखने को मिल रहा है। हाल ही में न्यूयॉर्क वो छठा राज्य बन गया है, जहां के विधायकों ने डेटा सेंटर बनाने पर रोक लगाने का प्रस्ताव दिया है।
इसके अलावा पेंसिल्वेनिया के गवर्नर जोश शापिरो ने डेटा सेंटर डेवलपर्स के लिए सख्त दिशानिर्देश जारी किए हैं। इन नियमों में डेटा सेंटर्स को अपने बिजली खर्च का बिल खुद उठाने और स्थानीय लोगों को नौकरी देने के साथ-साथ पानी के संरक्षण के लिए जरूरी स्टैंडर्ड का पालन करने को कहा गया है।
पर्यावरण की चिंता
